Denver Mayor Hancock’s office just issued a press release today thanking “Denver City Council‚Äôs unanimous approval of a $3.35 million spending plan that will allow the city to meet immediate regulatory, safety and education needs directly tied to the new retail marijuana industry.”

"Everyone was given thanks except the industry that produced the $3.5 million for the city." - Wanda James

It is offensive that given Hancock’s gratitude for the money, he fails to thank the cannabis industry itself — you know, the activists and licensed business owners, among countless others who made Amendment 64 happen so that money could go to Denver schools who very much need the funds.

Wanda James, cannabis activist and owner of Jezebel’s Southern Bistro (a huge supporter of industry networking events) in the Lower Highlands section of Denver was understandably¬†insulted:

“At some point, it would nice for the Mayor to acknowledge the thousands of jobs created in Denver, the number of properties that have rented and renovated, the reduced crime stats surrounding our businesses and our efforts to help babies, children and thousands of people suffering from cancer and other health related issues.”
