About Maggie Volpo

Maggie Volpo is a writer and activist living outside of a very conservative urban area. She has worked in traditional publishing, journalism, as a blogger, and in the medical field as a translator. When she isn't fighting the tyranny of cannabis prohibition or working on the Stinky Steve books about cannabis she can often be found searching for mushrooms or tending to her mixed flock of birds. She also loves to cook, bake, garden, knit, sew and climb trees, the last of which is a joy shared by her beautiful autistic son.

Addicts are people, too. This is sadly something that many people in the cannabis community seem to be forgetting, throwing around the  words “druggie,” “meth-head,” and “junkie” as though a single factor (whether or not a person has used certain drugs) determines any human’s worth. Let me make something perfectly clear: being addicted to a […]

Monthly Activism: The Menstrual Cup Revolution

PHOTO: Menstrualcup.co, Wiki Commons If we want to reverse cannabis prohibition and replace it with a common-sense policy on hemp and cannabis cultivation and use, we can’t just sit on our thumbs and keep living life as we always have. It’s imperative that we all get involved. Not everyone can be a full-time activist, but […]

The War Isn’t Over: The Wilson Family

PHOTOS: Joe Leggett Photography Many people seem to believe that recent cultural shifts and policy changes supporting state’s rights and the rights of medical marijuana and recreational cannabis users mean that prohibition is over. It isn’t. Especially in states that do not recognize medical marijuana, people with serious medical conditions are being victimized and made […]

Free Weed for Rape Survivors

Free Weed for Rape Survivors

If you’re a feminist, you need to seriously consider supporting the full legalization of cannabis for both medicinal and recreational purposes. There are a number of arguments that could be successfully made regarding how overturning prohibition is in line with feminist principles, but my reasoning is much simpler, more practical, and direct. We need to […]
