About Maggie Volpo

Maggie Volpo is a writer and activist living outside of a very conservative urban area. She has worked in traditional publishing, journalism, as a blogger, and in the medical field as a translator. When she isn't fighting the tyranny of cannabis prohibition or working on the Stinky Steve books about cannabis she can often be found searching for mushrooms or tending to her mixed flock of birds. She also loves to cook, bake, garden, knit, sew and climb trees, the last of which is a joy shared by her beautiful autistic son.

It isn’t. Especially in states that do not recognize medical marijuana, people with serious medical conditions are being victimized and made […]

Free Weed for Rape Survivors

Free Weed for Rape Survivors

If you’re a feminist, you need to seriously consider supporting the full legalization of cannabis for both medicinal and recreational purposes. There are a number of arguments that could be successfully made regarding how overturning prohibition is in line with feminist principles, but my reasoning is much simpler, more practical, and direct. We need to […]

Cannabis Helped My Depression And Post Traumatic Stress

If you’ve met me in person, you might not realize that I suffer from severe, chronic depression. Depending on what I’ve worn, you might not think someone so outgoing and openly dorky could possibly be hurting. If you’ve only […]

Big Brother Is Listening: Zombies, Brunch And An Afternoon With FBI Agents

I love zombies. Not in a creepy, borderline necrophilia kind of way, but more in a guilty pop culture way. If I had to pick one single favorite film, it would have to be Shaun of the Dead. I’ll watch anything with zombies in it at least once, even Zombie Strippers. I write about zombies. […]

Our Run In With The Law: How A Local Cop Decided My Husband Was A Drug Kingpin

Our Run In With The Law: How A Local Cop Decided My Husband Was A Drug Kingpin

The definition of irony is when words are used to convey the opposite of their typical or literal meaning. It may also be what happened to my family on May 1st, 2013. My husband had stepped outside barefoot to play cops and robbers with a gaggle of squealing children: our infant son who was already […]

My Family Ran A Michigan Dispensary Until The State Closed Us Down

My Family Ran A Michigan Dispensary Until The State Closed Us Down

I was eight months pregnant when my husband called me to tell me he wanted to open his own medical marijuana dispensary in our home state of Michigan. It was nearly midnight, and it was one of the most terrifying phone calls of my life. There is so much risk in medical marijuana right now; […]
