About Maggie Volpo

Maggie Volpo is a writer and activist living outside of a very conservative urban area. She has worked in traditional publishing, journalism, as a blogger, and in the medical field as a translator. When she isn't fighting the tyranny of cannabis prohibition or working on the Stinky Steve books about cannabis she can often be found searching for mushrooms or tending to her mixed flock of birds. She also loves to cook, bake, garden, knit, sew and climb trees, the last of which is a joy shared by her beautiful autistic son.

Arizona Police Gun Down Medical Marijuana Patient and Father of Four

Arizona Police Gun Down Medical Marijuana Patient and Father of Four

Even as civil unrest and social outrage about institutionalized racism has been reaching fever pitch domestically, young men are still being gunned down by police. Rumain Brisbon is just one of the most recent examples of how institutionalized racism and a drug war out of control have lead to callous disregard for the lives of […]

First Annual ‘Do It for Nettie’ Day: Cannabis Oil and Congenital Hydrocephalus

“Hydrocephalus” isn’t a term many are familiar with, but Rachel knew what her doctors meant when they told her that her unborn child, who at 20 weeks was too small still to have its sex determined, had the condition. It meant that the child she was carrying, like her previous child, Raquel, would be born […]

Fall is beginning its mad rush toward winter, and the temperature is dropping. In some parts of the country, there’s snow on the ground this morning. I had to kick through several inches of it this morning.  When it starting frosting and snowing, that means it’s time to stave off the cold with some hot […]

More Dangerous to Kids Than Marijuana: Laundry Detergent Pods

More Dangerous to Kids Than Marijuana: Laundry Detergent Pods

The creation of medical marijuana programs and the legalization of recreational cannabis almost always seem to bring with them hysterical opining about the dangers legalized marijuana poses to children. Prohibitionists are trying to re-ignite the guttering flames of reefer madness in this country by frantically waving statistics about emergency room visits by children exposed to […]

Justice for Alex Hill, Removed from Parents for Marijuana and Murdered in Foster Care

Trigger Warning: This article discusses the removal of a child from biological parents for marijuana use, child abuse and the murder of a child while in foster care. Beautiful baby Alexandria Hill was removed from her parent’s custody because they naively admitted to Child Protective Services that they sometimes used marijuana at night, after Alex […]

Grand Jury Fails to Bring Charges in Flash Bomb Incident; Cops Not Responsible

In a predictable but outrageous turn of events, the Georgia Grand Jury reviewing the botched raid earlier this year that left Bounkham “Bou Bou” Phonesavanh’s face and torso severely damaged and burned decided that the police were not responsible for his injuries. For those not familiar with the case, the Habersham County SWAT team burst […]

Trigger Warning: This review contains discussion of incest, sexual abuse, rape, forced abortion, gang rape, rape of male rapists and the psychological/emotional fallout of these events. Spoiler Alert: Some details will be given that “spoil” the earlier chapters of the book. Tender Morsels is an imaginative, beautiful fantasy novel that tells the story of a […]

Another Surgery for Baby Bou-Bou, State Not Paying

Last week, Baby Bou Bou had to have yet another surgery as a result of his traumatic injuries in a botched, poorly researched raid on the home where he was staying on May 28th, 2014. For those who need a refresher, Bou Bou, whose legal name is Bounkham Phonesavanh, was sleeping in a crib in […]

County Refuses to Pay Medical Bills for Baby Burned by Flash Bomb

County Refuses to Pay Medical Bills for Baby Burned by Flash Bomb

Trigger Warning: This article discusses horrific child injury and SWAT-style paramilitary raids. Habersham County officials have made a public statement that the Georgia county will not be paying for the medical bills of a young child critically injured during a poorly-planned, poorly-executed, unnecessary SWAT raid of a residential home. That’s right; little Bounkham Phonesavah, known […]

Compassion for Children: Refugees Need Help, not Hate

Compassion for Children: Refugees Need Help, not Hate

Are you a parent? If not, do have children (or perhaps companion animals) that you feel lovingly protective toward? Imagine that love and that connection, and then try to imagine how terrible your situation would have to be to send that person you loved far, far away without you. How desperate would you have to […]
