About Maggie Volpo

Maggie Volpo is a writer and activist living outside of a very conservative urban area. She has worked in traditional publishing, journalism, as a blogger, and in the medical field as a translator. When she isn't fighting the tyranny of cannabis prohibition or working on the Stinky Steve books about cannabis she can often be found searching for mushrooms or tending to her mixed flock of birds. She also loves to cook, bake, garden, knit, sew and climb trees, the last of which is a joy shared by her beautiful autistic son.

Arizona Police Gun Down Medical Marijuana Patient and Father of Four

Even as civil unrest and social outrage about institutionalized racism has been reaching fever pitch domestically, young men are still being gunned down by police. Rumain Brisbon is just one of the most recent examples of how institutionalized racism and a drug war out of control have lead to callous disregard for the lives of […]

First Annual ‘Do It for Nettie’ Day: Cannabis Oil and Congenital Hydrocephalus

“Hydrocephalus” isn’t a term many are familiar with, but Rachel knew what her doctors meant when they told her that her unborn child, who at 20 weeks was too small still to have its sex determined, had the condition. It meant that the child she was carrying, like her previous child, Raquel, would be born […]

Recipe: Chill-Chasing Hot Spiced Apple Cider

Fall is beginning its mad rush toward winter, and the temperature is dropping. In some parts of the country, there’s snow on the ground this morning. I had to kick through several inches of it this morning.  When it starting frosting and snowing, that means it’s time to stave off the cold with some hot […]

More Dangerous to Kids Than Marijuana: Laundry Detergent Pods

More Dangerous to Kids Than Marijuana: Laundry Detergent Pods

The creation of medical marijuana programs and the legalization of recreational cannabis almost always seem to bring with them hysterical opining about the dangers legalized marijuana poses to children. Prohibitionists are trying to re-ignite the guttering flames of reefer madness in this country by frantically waving statistics about emergency room visits by children exposed to […]

Trigger Warning: This article discusses the removal of a child from biological parents for marijuana use, child abuse and the murder of a child while in foster care.
