Ooppss! With the holiday season now officially upon us, do you ever get invited to a party and forget to bring a treat? Always in need a last minute hostess gift? Want to get the guests at a celebration absolutely LIT?
You can do all that and more with my simple cannabis-infused Yummy Gummies. This method is so easy it can be completed, wrapped, and ready to give in under 30 minutes with simple ingredients you probably have in your pantry, including vegetable glycerin (click here for instructions on how to create your own with my personal recipe), a small box of Jell-O, 3 packets of unflavored gelatin, cooking spray, silicone candy molds, and cutting boards.
Begin with assembling all your required ingredients, remembering that when working with gelatin, one needs to move expeditiously and with purpose. I suggest using a cutting board to place the candy molds on when refrigerating as the silicone molds can be unstable and spill easily.
Gently spray each silicone candy mold with cooking spray. I scored these Halloween-themed molds at Dollar Tree on a whim and love how large they are, making them much easier to use than the little bear molds. The larger the mold, the easier to add the infused gelatin and avoid getting it everywhere, including on the ceiling.
You can also find a huge variety of shapes, themes, and prices of molds online. I would also suggest (at least for new candy creators) to not attempt to utilize the plastic syringes that come with kits. Instead, pour your mixture from a spouted measuring cup. The syringes are too quick to gum up and become useless for gelatin, which can waste a lot of the candy. They are, however, helpful to keep for other uses, such as frosting or detail work.
Mix one small, 3-ounce package of any flavor Jell-O with 3 envelopes of unflavored gelatin in a small saucepan with ½ cup of cold water, heating to a slow boil and allowing to simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat, add ¼ cup of cannabis-infused vegetable glycerin, stirring to incorporate fully.
Once the tincture has been well blended, pour into a heat-tolerant spouted cup or funnel, ideally thermal glass. Don’t use plastic; it might melt! Then pour into molds, being careful to not overflow the molds. You can wipe any that does overflow or cut it off when unmolding, if that type of thing bothers you (hello OCD, we see you).
Carefully place the cutting board with the molds onto a shelf in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes. After they have set, unmold and enjoy responsibly!
These will last several weeks when properly sealed in a plastic sandwich bag and stored in your fridge. As far as dosing, that is, of course, completely strain and tincture dependent. However, to calculate how much THC is going into each serving size, take the amount of THC percentage of your plant material, add to how many grams times the amount of oil or alcohol (in this case, vegetable tincture), which equals 100%. To find the actual dose, find out how many teaspoons of oil is in the recipe as well as how many servings. I use this dosage calculator from Wake and Bake for easy reference.
As always, keep the finished product out of the reach of kids and pets. These are almost too precious to share, but your friends and loved ones will feel all the love when you give them a piece of your very own Yummy Gummies.
