With all the focus on next’s weeks major consumer holiday, another important end of year holiday often takes a back seat. Today is the first day of Hanukkah, 2014. Also called the Festival of Lights, this eight-day long holiday is not really similar to Christmas, despite their temporal proximity.
Hanukkah, which is also spelled Chanukah (and a number of different ways), is a seasonal holiday celebrated by Jewish people that commemores a miracle at a temple involving blessed oil. Traditional celebrations include the lighting of candles in a special holder called a menorah every evening for eight days to symbolically represent the eight days that a single day’s supply of oil burned.
Ladybud Magazine wishes a safe and joyous Hanukkah celebration to those of its readers who celebrate this ancient holiday. May the sacred lights of Hanukkah illuminate a safe and happy path from here to the end of 2014! Be safe and blessed!
