Tuesday, November 11th, 2014 is Veteran’s Day. The holiday is meant to honor veterans who have served in the armed forces. Ladybud Magazine believes that every day should be Veteran’s Day, as the sacrifices these men and women have made (often including their physical and emotional health) are too often repaid with silence and closed doors. A single holiday, while important, can not make up for how easily our country and culture forgets veterans.
This year, like they have for a few years, several chain restaurants are actually giving away entrees to veterans, though some of them have time limits, exclusions, and price constraints. Veterans generally need to provide documentation of their service (such as a military identification card). There are also free haircuts, free coffees, and Slim Jim’s program to send active duty military members their meat sticks with personalized wrappers. While freebies are always great, Ladybud firmly believes that the best way to honor our veterans is to support programs that offer them the services they need when their service is over, including ensuring legal, safe access to medical marijuana for veterans with post traumatic stress disorder. To those who have served and their families, thank you. To those who fight for veteran rights and their access to necessary medical and mental health services, thank you as well.
Happy Veteran’s Day!
