‘Tis the season…. to be sick. When I’m out and about these days, I find myself using my arms in a shielding manner to protect myself as if the nearby sneezer were a sword-wielding villain. Despite the corny analogy, these annual germs truly can be worrisome – so I’ve composed a list of some of the most beneficial healing crystals and essential oils for keeping you healthy and your immune system in tip top shape!
There are many essential oils with antibacterial and antiviral properties. If you kill the germs before they can manifest into symptoms, your family will be sniffle-free this winter.
According to the National Institute of Health, the main ingredient in clove oil has anesthetic properties and can soothe pain. Eugenol also supports the body’s natural defenses as well as the body’s natural response to stress. Clove oil has been found to have anti fungal properties as well as the ability to combat candida overgrowth. This was discovered by the researchers at the University of Porto in Portugal.
Cinnamon bark is commonly used to support a healthy immune system. Have you heard all the buzz surrounding the Thieves essential oil blend? In our home, this is the most valuable item I have for the winter sniffles and germs. This oil blend contains powerful essential oils (Clove, Cinnamon Bark, Rosemary, Lemon, and Eucalyptus) that protect and defend, and as a dietary supplement it can support the immune system. It can be diffused to kill 99.99% of airborne bacteria and purify the air. This fact was scientifically tested at the Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. It was also scientifically proven in 2006, when Manchester University published their findings that in every single case study of an extensive hospital research project, the Thieves oil blend killed the hospital super bug MRSA 100% of the time. Yes, I quoted that right. 100%! This blend was supposedly based off of the oils that 15th century grave robbers would rub on to protect themselves from the Plague. You can see why I have completely stocked up!
Essential oils can be diffused to purify the air while and also inhaled for their aromatic benefit. They can be added to hot tea or some warm apple cider (always read the label to make sure the oil is safe for consumption or if dilution is recommended) or diluted with a carrier oil into a capsule. Some argue that the most beneficial way to use essential oils is to apply them topically to the skin or reflexology points on the bottoms of your feet. I even made a counter top spray to replace the chemical filled Lysol spray I used to go through so quickly every cold season.
It has been said that from the moment of contact with your skin, the essential oil is completely absorbed into your blood stream within 21 minutes. This is why I can only recommend that you use the essential oils from a company that, 1. Ethically sources all oils 2. Distills with low temperatures and low pressure – in a sterile environment 3. Grows without the use of herbicides or pesticides 4. Has no expiration date on their oils and 5. Sells only therapeutic grade oils that are safe to ingest and have nutrition facts on the bottle.
If we prevent germs, there should be no need to seek comfort from the symptoms, but should discomfort arise, the following oils may be of some help.
The RC or the Raven essential oil blends both contain eucalyptus and peppermint along with other powerful essential oils that make for a warming, soothing rub for your chest or throat.
Peppermint is an amazing oil for soothing the digestive tract and I have found that the Young Living DiGize blend helps to aid healthy digestion as well as calm the occasional upset or crampy stomach.
If the spirit is healthy, if energy flows freely throughout out chakras without facing any blockages, then we can trust that our bodies are relatively stress free. Stress is a huge factor when it comes to keeping your immune system functioning at it’s best. The less stress one has, the less likely they are to incur serious illness or pick up wintertime viruses. The more stress one has, the more likely it is that their immune system, healthy eating habits, and sleeping patterns are all taking a hit.
I have found that the following crystals are excellent for helping one to eliminate stress and in effect, keep a healthy mind and body. The following information on crystals was obtained from Judy Hall’s The Crystal Bible.
Smithsonite is a stone of peace, charm, stability, and tranquility. It is an excellent stone for relieving stress as it can form a buffer against life’s problems and help to align all the chakras. Smithsonite is also said to heal dysfunctional immune systems.
Blue Tourmaline or Indicolite carries within it an immense, radiating peace and can dissolve feelings of sadness. It is said to benefit the immune systems as well as the pulmonary and brain. It may also stimulate an urge for spiritual freedom and self clarity. Multicolored Gem Tourmaline or Elbaite is known to bring mind, body, and soul together and also may stimulate the immune system.
Moss Agate is not only an extremely stabilizing and earth connected stone, but it can also aid new beginnings as well as attract abundance. This stone helps improve self esteem while also helping one to release deep-seated fears. Moss Agate can help to reduce and alleviate stress and encourage optimism. It is said to be an anti-inflammatory stone that boosts the immune system.
Brown and Picture Jasper are both balancing stones that are deeply connected to the earth. They are excellent stones for alleviating environmental stresses such as electromagnetic smog or pollution. Both forms of Jasper are said to boost the immune system and help eliminate toxins or pollutants from the body.
Lapis Lazuli brings deep peace and helps to reduce stress quickly. This is a stone of serenity that harmonizes all levels of being (physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual). Lapis Lazuli can aid in alleviating pain and is said to help cleanse and boost the immune system.
Last but not least, Turquoise is an excellent healer of the spirit and dispels negative energy as well as electromagnetic pollution. It is a strengthening stone that provides inner calm and can enhance the immune system.
Before I go, I really can’t stress the thieves oil blend enough! It’s truly been a life saver for our family. If it can kill MRSA then I feel safe assuming that it, combined with an effective stress management plan like crystal healing, reiki, yoga, etc. can protect me from the endless harmful particles that I encounter and breathe on a daily basis. Healing crystals and essential oils can be of great help, but be sure to eat properly as well – avoid too many GMOs and processed and packaged foods. Insuring that the body gets the nutrition it needs is an equally important step to take towards maintaining optimum health in the chilly months ahead!
