This weekend, October 11th and 12th, 2014, The Conference Center in Seattle, Washington, will be overflowing with nerds, dorks and geeks of the female variety.
That’s right; this weekend marks the fourth annual GeekGirlCon, a massive celebration of all things female and dorky. Whether you’re passionate about Star Wars, Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter, there will surely be something there for you (and probably even the Twi-Hards). GeekGirlCon celebrates women in geek and nerd culture by highlighting female contributions to geek culture and emphasizing a lady-friendly environment at their events. Much like cannabis culture, geek culture often seems to target only young males, leaving women and girls in the cold. Events like GeekGirlCon help to give female nerds a presence in the community and establish them as a cultural niche in mainstream consciousness (also, it’s a great chance to network and meet new friends who love the same things).
You can also still purchase tickets for this weekend’s event by clicking here. Kids under 5 are free (making this a mommy-friendly event for all you geeky matriarchs). Single day passes are $30, and $45 will get you in the doors both days.
You can follow the GeekGirlCon on Facebook here.
