There are many examples of people who have overcome a large variety of adversity and face life changing events head on. This particular story is of a lovely, retired former US military veteran, cannabis advocate and mom named Kelli Brown, who currently resides in Auburn, Washington. She was experiencing what many women do as they age – having difficulty finding a sustainable method of supporting herself and giving back to her community.
Facing reality, Kelli took inventory of her life and realized she wanted to work within the cannabis industry. A friend “goaded” her into making some samples of homemade jams, both medicated and not, for presentation at a specialty market. Her healthy medible products were well received and within three months with a 300 dollar loan from “the Colonel” she has grown her own specialized business and continues to serve as an inspiration to other women who want to become involved in the cannabis community.
Mama Plenty’s has several stock flavors available, medicated or not, including Strawberry Lavender, Strawberry Lemon, Cherry Almond, Cherry Lemon, Blueberry, Raspberry, Key Lime and Marionberry. Kelli regularly introduces new flavors; her latest variety is Persimmon. She is also capable of producing special, custom orders.
Health benefits of cannabis are becoming well known and by combining it with a variety of other herbs, Kelli has created a healthy alternative to store brand jams. For example,”The polyphenols (a type of antioxidant) in lavender can help reduce the ‘bad’ bacteria in your gut,” says Christine Gerbstadt, MD, author of Doctor’s Detox Diet and spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
In fact, all the fruits and herbs used in Mama Plenty’s jams have some type of medicinal properties, so patients can choose not just based on flavor, but to treat specific symptoms.

Blueberries can boost memory and are a good source of vitamin C, vitamin K and fiber. The color of blueberries, from deep blue to purple, is caused by a group of flavonoids called anthocyanins, which have remarkable antioxidant power.
Raspberries also contain strong antioxidants such as Vitamin C, quercetin and gallic acid which fight against cancer, heart and circulatory disease and age-related decline. They are high in ellagic acid, a known “chemopreventive”, and have been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and is creating market interest as well because it is rich in Vitamin E, omega-3 fatty acid and has a sun protection factor (SPF) of 24-50.

If you’re a registered Washington medical marijuana patient, you can find Kelli during her weekly 100-mile round trip to a local cannabis friendly market at Paulie G’s Pool Hall and Deli at 527 Devoe Street SE in Olympia, Washington.
Kelli is planning an April launch of a Mama Plenty’s website, so people across the country will be soon able to order her delicious concoctions. Jams infused with cannabis won’t be available for sale online and will not be shipped outside of Washington state, in accordance with local and federal requirements. But someday soon, when those requirements have changed, Kelli’s medicated jams may just enjoy nationwide popularity.
