It’s October, and autumn has certainly arrived. It can be seen in the changing of the leaves, the chill in the air, and the presence of pumpkins. From pie to coffee to decorations, this season has become synonymous with the orange gourd, and why should it stop there? For crafty cannabis consumers, the pumpkin pipe is a great way to celebrate autumn, and it’s incredibly easy to construct.

What you need:

  • 1 Medium Sized Pumpkin
  • A serrated pumpkin carving knife (or other small serrated knife)
  • A metal spoon
  • A container for collecting pumpkin seeds
  • A miscellaneous bowl meant for a water pipe

When selecting your pumpkin, size is a factor. The larger the gourd, the more room for smoke to collect inside, but the heavier and more cumbersome it will be to use when finished. An extremely large pumpkin might become a two-person activity.

After selecting your pumpkin, cut into the top around the stem to create a removable lid. The smaller the lid, the tighter the seal will be, especially after a few days, but make sure that there is enough room to be able to clean it out properly. Using the metal spoon (and your hands) empty out the pumpkin guts until the seeds and other contents are all gone and there is a relatively smooth and clean surface in the interior.

Next, take your small knife, and decide where to place the bowl. It’s better to put the bowl on the top of the pumpkin, not very far from the lid incision, as it makes lighting it a lot easier. Whether your bowl has a glass or metal stem, cutting a round hole slightly smaller than the circumference of the stem will allow you to push the glass or metal in with ease. You may choose to have a removable bowl, in this case simply push a downstem through the pumpkin, and place the bowl inside of it.

The breathing hole will be directly opposite to bowl on the other side of the pumpkin. You can certainly just cut a hole and breathe through it, but an extra down-stem can make for an easy mouthpiece. Pop that lid back on and you’re ready to go!  The pumpkin pipe takes a couple of puffs to get really going, but once it does you’re in for just one more pumpkin treat to enjoy this autumn.

For extra fall cheer, rinse and roast the pumpkin seeds with some cannabis infused olive oil and a sprinkle of salt. Spread them on a cookie sheet and bake in the oven at 325° F until golden brown and crunchy, stirring occasionally.

Autumn Fires

In the other gardens
And all up the vale,
From the autumn bonfires
See the smoke trail!

Pleasant summer over
And all the summer flowers,
The red fire blazes,
The grey smoke towers.

Sing a song of seasons!
Something bright in all!
Flowers in the summer,
Fires in the fall!
